Our History

Logo for NOAF, New Orleans Architecture Foundation, over a black-and-white cityscape of modern buildings.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, New Orleans architects were filled with a renewed sense of the importance of architects and architecture, and the need to enhance public appreciation of architecture and design as vital community assets in the New Orleans area.

Leaders of the American Institute of Architects New Orleans Chapter set out to establish a physical and visible presence from which that vision might be advanced. In 2007, this search resulted in the creation of the New Orleans Architecture Foundation and the establishment of our home at 1000 St. Charles Avenue.

Since opening in 2014, the Center for Architecture and Design has hosted hundreds of events, including exhibits, lectures, continuing education programs, private receptions, and meetings, serving as a hub for architectural appreciation in New Orleans.
